Reading this scene in the restaurant again, it reminds me of situations I’ve been in and how I felt. It’s such a good presentation of a bad experience that would be difficult to describe in words. Travelling with an ex, it was mortifying how disrespectful they would be to service workers.
There seem to be layers of insults and arrogance that build, in this scene.
It’s implied by Amaryllis that Abeille is being her parents’ host, showing them Monotropa, and her mom is dissatisfied. That gradually builds and continues into the next scene, where Amaryllis is more explicitly dissatisfied and blaming Abeille.
There is Amaryllis being disrespectful to the restaurant, trashing the menu and staff, then speculating that all restaurants on Monotropa will be objectively unsatisfactory.
Mallow faintly consoles and counters praising the tech and Amaryllis mocks him with “but, your father is right”. He’s right because he too had to sacrifice gracing Pasque with their presence.
Hmm, just going to annoy you here too.
First, comments are up, YAY! Finally some place to discuss the comic!
Second, THANKS for the wonderful comic.
I LOVE it!
Third, in panel 3, Mallow and Amaryllis switched places….
Fourth, don’t you hate it too when stalkers point out your error on all channels?
😉
