Ch17 P15
*A reference to Chapter 6. Ivy’s time volunteering at the Welcome Center where she met Abeille when she first came to Monotropa (and where she also met Aster).
*Basically, Eyebright has a volunteer program you participate in when you work for them. You can request which program you would like when your volunteer time comes around, or you can just let them assign you. They are companies that Eyebright funds or sponsors and they let employees experience different fields. Usually, they let you know in advance.
So this doesn’t make me think someone is being nice…
Seriously someone can go hump a frog in a bog for being mean to her…
Ruh-roh, signed off by Miel’s boss, a one-week trip out of the way. Well, it couldn’t be all cuddles and cute outfits happily ever after, now could it?
“So now you have the time to devote to work again, right Miel?”
:-/
Miel: “Uh, no actually I need to take some time off. Something’s come up. Gotta help a friend with a volunteer thing…”
Miel: “Uh, no, actually, I need to take some time off. Something’s come up. Gotta help a friend with a volunteer thing.”
That sounds like a plan to gross her out with babycare. Given her non-standard interest in obsolete uses of reproductive organs, she might need the training. It doesn’t appear like the common ways of interaction in this society call for the use of contraceptives.
On the one hand, I want to dismiss this as “in a society this medically advanced surely no one would even be fertile without wanting to be” and on the OTHER hand the angst-lover in me is intrigued by the plot-possibilities of Abeille being the first properly pregnant woman this society has seen in ages and becoming something of a social upset because of it.
Wait, what exactly is the foster program? Is it something else than Ivy was doing?
Should we know already? Why don’t I know already?
Is this foster CARE? of animals? kids? plants? 😀
Perhaps the planet shocked adults?
Or is it more spiritual fostering and it’s just some developing industry company?
(I hope this will not be marked as spam, I only just thought more about it after posting the previous one)
Could it be this fostering project involves touching and Botan is worried for her?
He and Clove hadn’t been practising touch yet, Clove was established to be confused as to what a hug is and they were not shown learning what it was.
YUP! Jealous Acier!
“Dr Acier?” Not your usual flora and fauna name. It means “steel” in French. Kinda confused on the choice.
I think it’s a theme that the executives in Eyebright Industries are named after minerals. Another aside from Mr. Acier is introduced in chapter 3.
Oops. I’m probably wrong about the mineral names. The big boss (Ms. Frelon) looks a bit like a hornet not a type of plastic…
Sounds very intentional, symbolically speaking. He seems to be a road block for Abs and Miel’s relationship- giving him a name that means something rigid, cold and inorganic seems very fitting.
I thought he’s supposed to be “Glacier”, given his snow-white colour scheme. Maybe his FIRST name will be some flower starting on G
I thought it was a different spelling of Acer Aceraceae which is the scientific name for maples
Can it really be called a Volunteer Program if they require you to do it though? Just sounds like company required Community Service hours
Clove is supposed to be her friend, shouldn’t he express worry or any sort of care for her after hearing what was just said? Seriously, is he that airheaded and fickle? I mean, he also seemed like he only hung out with her to get to Miel, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised here…
Clove did not hang out with her to get to Miel, he got to Botan. And he clearly interacts with her in this strip. At the same time, he obviously is distracted in Botan’s presence. A lot. Botan has superficially stated that he thinks Abielle is going to be ok, and that’s what stuck with Clove. Even though Abielle, less distracted, was able to read more between the lines.
Give him a break. It’s not like it’s in his or Botan’s hands to do anything here, anyway.
Nah, you don’t just shrug off something like that. He’s supposed to be her friend. He could have shown an ounce of concern for that ominous statement. And he definitely used her a bit to attempt to pick up on Miel.
Sorry! That wasn’t meant to be a reply to you lol
oo! i love the new website design
Thanks! I’m doing a little bit at a time! My next area of attack is reorganizing and cleaning up the left sidebar! ^_^
Isn’t “foster” baby and childcare? Involves touching, which is a deeply ingrained source of revulsion for most? And as for being the first woman to have a natural pregnancy and birth in this kind of society, Brave New World (I THINK Aldous Huxley? but have memory disorder-) made it kind of plain that something like that left the woman to be a permanently disgraced slut(The society decanted infants from bottles, and 85% of genetic women were freemartins, a name for natural sterility in cattle, and non-freemartins could sell their ovaries to the government to use for bottles) I’m specifically referring to at the beginning, where the sophisticated city folk go to laugh at the American Indians, and discover a white woman had been accidently left there a couple of decades ago, a non-freemartin, and when her birth control shot wore off she got pregnant, because sex was so free for the city dwellers but the First Nationers still had concepts of family and honor, which left Ms. White Lady regarded as a slut.
