h-h-hand….must touch eeeet….nooooo….
Y’know, in our world we have folks who swear by putting on a nappy/diaper under their flannel dino pyjamas and sucking on a dummy/pacifier, all the accroutrements of being a toddler again. Think about these two beans before judging those folks as weird & perverted.
In these days of social distancing, this comic has taken on a whole other dimension for me π I wonder what traumatic event society when through to develop such a taboo about personal contact
It even matches with what seems to be the current information we have on Covid-19, where adults are highly vulnerable and susceptible, but children seem to be ‘fine’ (medically at least, at this time) and don’t have the same severe complications from the virus.
In this future alt-earth society, children are still touching, but they learn at a particular age to stop touching. The older they are, the more vulnerable they are, and the more likely they are to pass something on to their adults?
Upon re-read of this page and before the next one is published: I have the awful feeling that Clove will channel his brother, and harshly ends up rejecting Botan’s hand. Not because he wants to, but because he sees it as a personal weakness of his, and he detests that. I hope Clove won’t be cruel, but I have the terrible feeling that he will, unintentionally in an effort to show himself (and his brother) that he doesn’t need touch.
Just considering what his reaction was after the tent – and we saw flashbacks to his childhood. π
