It is nice to get a better look at the Moms’ clothing. A picture tells a story donut. Abeille, looking like the victim when she is but isn’t but is but isn’t. Miel looking guilty when he is but isn’t. Amaryllis thinking she’s brought the outrage and wanting some security from Mallow. Mallow, thinking “I love you babe, but…”.
Also, am I misreading the situation, or is Abeille essentially in her undergarments? I’m surprised that her mother would allow her out of (Abeille’s) house without making her put on more clothes (given the comment about Abeille being “practically naked” when Amaryllis and Mallow first arrived on Monotropa), but I’m also wondering if this is just further attempting to abuse Abeille via humiliation in front of Miel’s family.
I took “we’re leaving” to mean Amaryllis and Mallow. But, it’s ambiguous. If that were the case, Abeille might have had to chase after them.
It works out that Miel’s parents are presented with a scene that suggests Miel might have done something unusual, maybe. And Miel, having just woke up, gets to look at what would be, in a different mood and different scenario, his heart’s desire, while scrambling to make sense of what is happening.
In effect it seems like Abeille is being humiliated by Amaryllis, to me too, even if she might not have done it intentionally, but through neglect.
I love Jasmine’s generalized apology hand gesture and Cordia’s just slightly concerned look. I hope for a united front too.
I can Miel’s mums being sympathetic to Amaryllis’ “distress” and “upset” and then setting down some hard boundaries when she goes too far, and flat out calling her out on her BS if she tries to keep pushing.
I think that maybe seeing Miel’s mums stand up to Amaryllis might give Mallow the perspective her needs to finally go “No, this isn’t ok, you’re hurting Abi and I want you to stop”.
Especially since Miel’s mums absolutely adore Abielle and will no doubt want to hear her side of things. Will be interesting to see if/how Amaryllis tries to stop her speaking…
Abeille standing between everyone and her mom, makes me feel many different things, mostly adoration. If she had to chase after them, even more so. She’s been doing her best to protect people, other than herself, from her difficult mother, I think, making up for what her mother lacks.
That would be a sort of codependency, but Abeille focuses on what is important, maybe, which isn’t just herself.
It’s quite some distance between Abeille’s and Miel’s apartments, right? Seems like it’s likely that Abeillie stopped protesting soon after the last page and probably just silently tagged along instead of setting boundaries or explaining that she, too, likes touching.
I am honestly interested in seeing where this will go. This is as good as Abeille will ever get it when it comes to good setups to stand up to her mother – she got Miel who will definitely back her up and Miel’s parents are also known to being supportive. If she can’t do it now and instead will let her mother just run her game, this will likely end with Amaryllis declaring that Abeille will leave Monotropa with her and that this is to be the last time that Miel and Abeille see each other. I honestly cannot see this end in any other way than either that or Abeille and Miel sticking up for each other and Miel/his parents basically kicking Amaryllis out. If Miel’s potential job will play any role in this (like Amaryllis telling Abeille that Miel will leave anyway) remains to be seen.
Gina isn’t known for creating drama for the sake of drama, so I will hold onto the hope that Amaryllis will get shut down and Abeille will grow a bit more of a spine with backup now, though I cannot shake the feeling that it’s not as likely to happen as I want it to.
>Seems like it’s likely that Abeillie stopped protesting soon after the last page and probably just silently tagged along instead of setting boundaries or explaining that she, too, likes touching.
It seems more likely to me that Abeille probably tried but, her mother being who she is, her attempts fell on deaf ears, which is why Abeille tried a different route of resisting her mother through attempting to warn Miel instead of continuing to waste her breath and energy on someone who’s dead-set on not listening.
I’m also hoping that Abeille will be able to confront her mom with Miel and his parents as backup. I honestly think that Cordia and Jasmine will be like “Oh, they do something kinky? Well, they’re adults. That’s their choice. Maybe not my thing, but it’s not my business to stop them.” It’s also amazing AF when you have a narcissist who meets someone who won’t cater to their whims (I’ve experienced this and watching them meltdown in real time is…fascinating).
Fingers crossed that Abeille somehow has the fortitude to tell Amaryllis where she can stick her attitude.
I’m starting to dislike that label. It was a joke that is turning sour. If a Karen is someone who thinks the world has guest services and first class seating, Amaryllis doesn’t really fit, I think.
this is very close to home (you’re getting that a lot). Shaming your child into action through public humiliation and outrage, because many people are conflict – averse. It takes a very strong, loving, steady approach to get past the self-righteousness. I have been in Abeille’s shoes. Different circumstances, same feeling.
I sincerely am rooting for Miel and his parents to show that strong, loving, firm but not-explosive response. The only way to get a self-righteous anger to quiet is NOT to fuel the fire but not to let it consume you either.
if it were me in Miel’s parents’ and Miel’s shoes, I would observe all of the positive that their pairing has wrought, and I would ask MIEL and ABEILLE if they loved each other, respected each other, and whether they were fully communicating their needs to the other.
And when I got the affirmative, and they looked into each others’ eyes and were sincere, I would look up at Amaryllis and gently but firmly point out that she has no right to control two grown, communicating, loving, consenting adults and that they will give the couple support and she should too. Gentle but with a rock hard spine.
My only hope now is that Miel’s parents rip this b*tch and her manipulative controlling “Parenting” to pieces. Show Abeille what Real LOVING Parents look like!
This reminds me so much of my own mother. It was all about control, all about her version of reality and how it fit. I’m nearing 30, and she still does not see me as a capable adult. I had to pull away from her to live my life. This page right here reminds me of my mother forcing her way into my friend’s parent’s home when she could not get me on the phone. I really hope Abeille finds a healthier balance and sets her boundaries or she will be treated like a 15 year old girl forever.
OH!!! I wasn’t expecting this! Oh! I am actually looking forward to this!!! PLEASE Miel’s Mothers do something about this!!!
Well, better to get it all out now rather than later! Hopefully to clear up some of the misunderstandings…

The facial dynamics in the last panel are AMAZING. Paired with the body posture, you can tell the mood and intent of each character. A++++ to Gina. <3

Time for a united front

That’s exactly what I thought, too.
I think she’s in her sleepwear instead of underwear, but… yeah, the humiliation aspect is still there. :/

I hope that his parents are like surprisingly supportive and tell the other mom to mind her own business.

Oh. Oh snap. OH SNAP! *runs to make popcorn* GURL this gonna be GOOD!

I will stop reading this comic if the mother doesn’t face repercussions for her emotional abuse soon
wow Abi’s mom is a KAREN

Mom, Amma, don’t disappoint me now….
