It’s interesting that Acier got blasted for doing the same in the comments. In the end, we comment sectarians depend on Gina’s goodwill to make everything turn out to the best… we only have the power of prayer.
Acier got blasted because he’s not just acting strong for the sake of his employee. I 100% believe he has ulterior motives. These ladies don’t seem to have any ulterior motives. They’re just being strong for the sake of their child.
I had issues with Acier because he’s not related to either of them, and here he is telling Miel how to live his own life. Yes, I get that Acier is Miel’s boss, but that also means he has an agenda when dealing with Miel, and I honestly don’t understand why he even got to say anything to Miel about the situation Acier walked in on–which he really shouldn’t have been nosing about anyway, even if Abielle’s mother started it. Amaryllis is at least RELATED TO Abeille, even if she’s not handling things well at all otherwise. I know if any boss I’ve ever had walked in on me getting close with an SO at an event when we’ve ensconced ourselves out of site and then proceeded to tell me that what I was doing is improper somehow, I would not have been happy. What I do at work for my boss and what I do in some even minimal privacy with my SO is nobody’s business but ours.
I get a lot of “crushin on Miel, but trying to keep it professional-ish” from Acier… which i think colors his opinions on things sometimes. Like Acier just sees a lot of themselves in Miel, and then makes assumptions based on that without actually checking in or listening when Miel expresses unexpected opinions.
I’m waiting to see whether Acier has a case of ulterior-motive-villany, or a case of sudden “protege has no idea how vicious the public could get over this!” protectiveness. Or both? Though my money’s on neither. This has not been a predictable story so far, that’s its greatness, amiright?
Are we reading the same comic even? Acier blasted Miel for risking to create a total shitstorm with repercussions transgressing and affecting the department, while on company time, property, and business. Miel knew Amaryllis to be around.
Yes, he did state that the “simplest” solution regarding company and Acier would be if Miel did not pursue his relation further. And yes, he has an agenda. He put his agenda on the table, he listened to Miel’s take on situation and his priorities. And he has cursed by the bloody mess this all creates for him.
So far I have not seen any indication that he is planning to go behind Miel’s or anybody else’s back in that affair. Oh, and he likely did get Abeille’s “voluntary” service called in, probably speculating that this would make a short-term distraction just slip out of focus.
So he’s been trying to not let things come to a head, and he dropped the ball when he told Amaryllis in a lapse of judgment where he’d last seen Abeille and Miel, and he immediately realised that this was a bad idea. But it was his first encounter with Amaryllis.
We still have to see how he will ultimately try addressing the shit having hit the fan. And then there will be enough time to pass judgment…
But why would he want to distract Miel from Abeille? At that point in time, there was no drama, Miel just stopped bending over backwards for his job. Okay, as a boss you might want to see your employees living and breathing for their job, but that doesn’t make it right.
i am HERE for the Acier Defense Squad!!! i, like one of the commenters above me, believe that Acier might be crushing on Miel and part of his frustration is because of that. but even if not, and even though i love Miel, it’s hard to deny that Miel (and Abeille, because she works at the same company albeit at a much lower level) did act inappropriately while on the job. this isn’t to say that they *deserve* to be reprimanded, but like… what did they expect? what else is Acier supposed to do in this situation?
i’m a very romantic and sexual person, but i know better than to sneak around at work trying to be flirty, because i know that the company i work for would have every intention of punishing my ass swiftly if they found out. it’s just…. part of having a job. Miel did something that reflects poorly on his employer, so employer reprimands him. it sucks to get reprimanded at work for something that isn’t wrong outside the workplace, but that’s how it is. maybe Miel and Abeille can work on changing workplace culture, but until then, i don’t see anything wrong with how Acier responded to this situation.
someone (Pigeon) made this comment on P2 of this chapter and i think it fits perfectly:
“I’ve gotten a sense that touching in this universe is more along the lines of public sex in terms of real-world analogous taboos. So imagine you walked in on your employee banging his girlfriend in a public (if unoccupied) tent at a high-profile function for your business. And said girlfriend is a junior member of the same business. (Miel doesn’t supervise her, but he’s definitely senior to her by a wide margin in the corporate hierarchy.) And said employee was one of your rising stars on whom you have personally staked your reputation. And the girlfriend’s parents were with you.”
I agree, Acier’s juggling a lot of things that Miel may not think about. I think the Acier-bashing comes from people feeling like Acier is pushing his own motives/agenda on Miel rather than what’s best for Miel – but Acier’s responsibilities lie with Eyebright, not Miel. I do think Acier identifies with Miel a good bit, whether in a mentor/protege relationship or a crush-type situation, and that undoubtedly colors some of their interactions, particularly as Miel is starting to act differently than Acier would have expected.
Also, the first time you encounter someone like Amaryllis, it’s easy to be taken in by them. They’re very good at using charm and confidence to make you think they’re good people. I don’t fault Acier for telling Amaryllis where Miel and Abeille were, even if Miel had warned Acier that Abeille’s mother is the sort of person she is.
Honestly, the best course of action here might be for Acier, Miel, and Abeille to meet with the HR people at Eyebright and beat Amaryllis to the punch on any sort of public statement. Getting Miel and Abeille to the new settlement – and out of the public eye further – might also be a good idea. Amaryllis is going to be dangerous regardless of where she is, but if the force can be taken from her actions, it becomes less of a liability.
(and wow, I really hate Amaryllis. She reminds me so much of someone who screamed at me the night before my wedding until I was sobbing and who continues to make my partner feel like crap whenever we spend time with her. At least it’s safer to hate a fictional character than someone I actually have to deal with…)
While I also think Acier has some ulterior motives and is acting a bit too paternalistic, we have to be cognizant that in this culture adults holding hands is seen as an intense fetish that relates to children and mental illness in a way, because children/distressed people can have physical contact but adults can’t. So it would be similar to your boss walking in on you having sex with your SO at a company event in a barely private place. It would be super reasonable for them to yell at you for this behavior.
I would add to that mental image someone there having a pacifier and a rattle – to invoke the imagery of an ususual kink related to childlike behaviour.
I personally am going to be defending the “willing for the best but constrained by his obligations” view of Acier.
I can’t imagine dealing with the pressure he’s under.
No, Acier got blasted in the comments for trying to paint himself as supportive while trying to manipulate Miel into breaking things off. Some of the red flags were his suggestion that Miel leave the area to avoid the scandal, that he and Miel are alike, and pushing Mentor buttons that are very similar to parent buttons.
Miel’s parents, on the other hand fully supported their son and his girlfriend even when blindsided in the worst way possible. I’d have needed a drink or two just after having a screaming indignant “Mother Knows Best” type energy in my home.
My vibe from Acier was “I just learned everyone’s points of view and there is no solution where nobody gets very hurt. Their versions of how it should be are just TOO contradictory. I can’t even remotely please anyone without someone else getting a very bad deal”
Important reminder: if Amaryllis is not placated, it’s likely she will go to the public media and make a scandal going like this: “Eyebright’s employee is a dangerous pervert who corrupted my innocent, vulnerable daughter and that Mr Acier tried to keep me quiet and cover it up.”
If she presents a tale like this, what is Acier to do? His company takes a huge reputation hit and he is more or less forced by HIS higher-ups to condemn and disavow Miel and fire him publicly.
Omg I feel bad for forgetting her name, but the Momma in pink . . . her face in that last panel hahaha. it was like, “you think?!” look lol. Needed a good laugh after these tense moments. Hmmm, I wouldn’t be surprised if we switched to Abielle’s parents after this. Mallow has a chance to really put his own opinion now.
I’m proud of them for keeping up this far. I’ve been having full-on rants here 😀 Why would anyone blame them anyway? They’re finally gonna enjoy their evening.
I’ll let you in on a secret – that comment was a result of me not remembering their names and checking, and then looking for a thing I can say about them separately to maybe remind their names to other forgetful people and also so I don’t forget so easily again.
Aww…. They’ve been putting on a strong face and calm exterior for the sake of the kids… I love them so much. Miel’s got the best moms

Thats exactly the same feel I got too.

Yass queens, you deserve a good drink after this stellar performance. I am in awe. Fangirling so much 😀

Jasmine. Miel calls her “Amma” (Mom, essentially). Isn’t she adorable? I want to give her a hug. Both mom’s are magnificent.
I would definitely offer her a hug, but keep in mind she might not be up for that sort of affection at this point.
I saw that as “Wow, our son’s lovers parents are something else, especially that MOM!” LOL
Miel’s moms are the best!
Abeille is who has changed people’s lives. I love the people supporting her. She is really the force changing things for the better.
Miel’s moms are awesome, but I don’t blame them. After the last few pages I feel like *I* need a drink! D:
I’m proud of them for keeping up this far. I’ve been having full-on rants here 😀 Why would anyone blame them anyway? They’re finally gonna enjoy their evening.
LOL They are a mood. I love them.
It is nice to see Cordia’s dress clearly. I will not be able to get Rose’s comment about boobs then dress out of my head…
I’ll let you in on a secret – that comment was a result of me not remembering their names and checking, and then looking for a thing I can say about them separately to maybe remind their names to other forgetful people and also so I don’t forget so easily again.
There’s a wiki of sorts with some characters named: https://lovenotfound-fans.fandom.com/wiki/Characters It’s badly in need of help from someone who speaks a language fluently.
I’ve had already made some calls for correction, but only for factual inaccuracies I noticed at a first glance.
