Tee hee. Holly’s face! I don’t know what’s funny. He’s just so expressive.
Verbena seems rather disarmed. I was noticing how earlier in the story they tell each other that they hate each other, which I think was how they say they love each other.
You know, I really love and appreciate how family dynamics are approached in this series. It’s such a hard topic to touch on with poise, especially when things are strained – like between Abeille and Amaryllis, or Ivy and Verbena. So… kudos for this!
I can understand this, even though I’m an only child; but it happens sometimes that parents treat their children differently, and one longs for what the other has (and vice versa). Ivy described herself as a “complete designer baby” (a golden child, then?), and she resents her mother for it; but compared to her, Verbena (the problem child, perhaps?) doesn’t have as much of their mother’s attention, so she’s jealous of Ivy in that regard.
On a different note: I wonder if the hibiscus flowers and bay leaves on Ivy and Verbena’s dresses mean something. I tried reading about flower symbolism, but there are so many meanings of the hibiscus flower that I’m stumped.
Ooh interesting. I thought bay leaf right away and then dismissed it. There is speculation here https://lovenotfound-fans.fandom.com/wiki/Flora#Hibiscus it’s pretty superficial. If anyone wants to contribute that would be amazing. The “language of flowers” gave the meaning “I change but in death” to bay leaf. There was a particular romantic context to those meanings, I think.
Vera’s sib is named Laurel. Bay are sometimes laurels… Laurels aren’t necessarily Bay. https://lovenotfound-fans.fandom.com/wiki/Flora#Laurel So if they really are bay leaves, that would be interesting. I liked poison ivy, but it’s probably not. I think it’s “leaf pattern”. Thanks for the peppermint suggestion.
Funny you should mention that. Hibscus is a flower of delicate beauty and perfection, while the Bay is a tree that symbolises victory and glory by merit. Describes the sisters very well, right? 🙂
Could it be not so much the specific flowers but the fact that one is a flower, the “star” of the plant, while a leaf is thought of as ‘just’ an accent, almost an afterthought?
(yes, I know leaves are important, just looking into possibilities here)
We could also be looking way too deep, and Ivy liked that suit and Vee liked that one, so that’s what they got…
I think so. I think that’s a good point about the leaf vs flower. I take this sort of symbolism as like irony. Whether or not it’s intentional is not the point. If someone favors drab colors, it says something, very very general, about them, without it needing to be that they are intentionally wearing that. I haven’t been thinking: look, it’s a hidden message from Gina.

Ooooh, I like that thought. I hadn’t even noticed their dresses until pointed out in the comments, and I’m really liking this interpretation.
I also love the symbolism with the outfits of Holly and Aster. Aster is just wearing pink, which is a color Ivy is wearing. While Holly is wearing Blue and yellow, colors from both Ivy’s and Verbena’s dresses. Such a nice touch.

Ooh, Verbena’s face in the last panel makes me think maybe she’s sick of all the fighting. I’m hoping we get some sisterly bonding this chapter!
Poor Vee… she’s just gonna spend the cruise looking at a functional relationship she doesn’t have…

Sorry, here’s speculation about the dress https://lovenotfound-fans.fandom.com/wiki/Flora#Verbena

Bay? I’d have said peppermint and it probably signifies that each of them thinks the other would benefit from boiling water…
huh… Verbena might need therapy.
No, she just needs her sister.

Yikes… I’ve heard of family drama but this is getting a little over the top.
When Verbena’s involved, it’s ALWAYS over the top XD
