I’m pretty sure this is flirting, Verbena style. She knows he knows she knows. Holly makes it clear he’s not really playing her game, while he plays her game. I just hope he’ll be a bit more sensitive about Ivy and Verbena.
Wow, y’know, I never would have thought of it that way, but now that you suggested it I can totally imagine it. Is makes sense, given Verbena’s competitiveness, that she’d be drawn to him. Something her sister has? Get it! But then ironically the very traits that make Holly a good match for Ivy would mean Verbena’s style of showing interest by play-attacking will leave him repulsed instead of tempted.
I guess we don’t really know what happened with Verbena and Holly. It was after the conflict over Ivy wanting more and after Holly had dated. His reaction to Ivy wanting more seemed odd to me. Like someone wanting commitment before sex would be on earth. He dated and was ashamed about it (right after talking calmly about Ivy and Aster https://lovenotfound.com/comic/ch14-p21/). Liked I’ve done, to make some point to a partner like “look I’m also wiling to risk our relationship”.
So, maybe he let Verbena go further with the mess about Ivy wanting more, in mind. And maybe he’s not tempted by Verbena and not a good match, like you say. There are many loose ends trying to patch together what’s happening. Maybe it will be cleared up in coming pages.
“Friends, right, after you basically used me to get to your sister and dragged me into a conflict that has nothing to do with me. It’s not my fault your mom played favorites, goodbye.”
Has she completely forgotten that her last interactions with him were a solid helping of verbal abuse and battery, and her last words to him were “You’re not forgiven”? Some friend! Go find another toy to wind up, Verbena. >:[
It’s the way Verbena says “YOUR plans” that completely delegitimises Holly’s place in his relationship with Ivy and Aster. We know that Holly and Ivy have history, we know that Aster and Holly are in the process of building their own form of fondness and relationship. Verbena doesn’t seem to see it that way and insinuates that Holly’s a third wheel. Given that Holly felt like that himself earlier on, it’s just another twist in the knife of insecurities, which is upsetting, because this holiday was going to be a great opportunity for the three of them to continue working on their relationship.
“Talk” not “grill.” Maybe try something other than questions

*IT makes sense.

…yes Verbena, that IS stretching it a bit.
“Friends, right, after you basically used me to get to your sister and dragged me into a conflict that has nothing to do with me. It’s not my fault your mom played favorites, goodbye.”
Expressions immensly entertaining, as expected of them.
Holly looking like “I’m not buying any of this” while sipping on a sunset glimmer, is pretty funny.
Verbena, honey, you’re way past second chances here. You’re lucky he’s tolerating you at all.
“Isn’t that was friends do?” Yes, so what’s *your* excuse?
