It seems Abeille is depressed she’s dragging Miel down, while Miel is worried how will she take it.
Now unlike our world, it doesnt seem they will be in danger rent- and food-wise. We’ve seen this society provide the bare necessities to unemployed people fresh from arrival, I believe people inbetween jobs will also have basic safety provided and heck, Miel still lives at home, so even if that’s not true, Abeille can just move in.
Abeille, please don’t let this send you “home”. Get a restraining order.

1. He’s being professional again – and by that I mean frigid and not outwardly announcing that it makes him sad.
2. He’s blaming the decision on a person who’s not present so they don’t try pleading with him too much.

Do you know the feeling when you’re walking up the stairs but miss a step? That sensation of falling in your gut. That’s how this page feels. Like that instant of floor not being there.
Do I still believe in him? Do I believe his hands are truly tied? Do I think he’s not obligated to protect them at the expense of his own professional life?
I’m not a huge Acier fan, but my rebuttal is this:
1. His expressions are not cold and frigid, he’s showing saddened expression in these panels.
2. He’s not blaming anyone. Ms. Frelon is the boss of Eyebright Industries, not just a department head, so what she says goes.
3. Given that Miel and Abeille have just had their employment terminated, it’s natural that neither one of them would be going to the new city since they’re no longer part of Eyebright Industries.
I don’t know where things are going to go for Miel and Abeille, but this isn’t really Acier’s fault. He was right in that the couple should have been more careful of when and where they were being intimate. They should have thought more about what sort of consequences their actions could have. The same would be said if they had been a couple that wasn’t touching each other physically but had instead using the compact pleasure kits.
Agree with all of the above except I’m not sure that Miel was fired too. He only said “you” not “you both”. It may have only been Abeille that was let go.
She really does need a restraining order out on her mother. Or maybe some freaking group therapy. I hope she can find a job still on planet. It seems like eyebright is the largest job provider on this planet, so hopefully she can work elsewhere. Not sure if she’ll still be able to work with kids after this, but if the stigmas don’t follow her I think that would be a good path.
He’s handing them two papers evenly, that’s what the most likely conclusion is. Miel is the one being accused of deviant behaviour by Mother Gothel, and since he refused throwing Abeille under the bus, he’s being let go with her.
As I understood it:
Aster works at Eyebright, at the Welcome Center. The childcare center is at Eyebright. I was under the impression that every job we’ve seen so far has been at Eyebright. I was not actually aware there was another employer on Monotropa yet.
I don’t think that’s the case. Eyebright only donates volunteers to these places, they operate independantly.
Poppy overtly left Eyebright and took a job in the childcare place. They are separate entities.
And even so, there’s at least one completely independant business we know of – Tulip’s family owned sweets cafe.

And he’s not in any way required to try to save them by a hare-brained scheme. I believe he tried his best but his obligations are still to the company. Letting them go is painful and bitter, but it’s not going to threaten their life in this society. They can find other jobs. This isn’t late-stage capitalism hell where one missed rent is instant eviction.
Now the company can say “this person is not employed here” and decline further comments when asked. By severing the attachment, they can hope it still goes a little bit quiet.
Whatever you want to believe of Acier, he certainly is not enthused about having a keystone to his city raising project removed. Whether or not he thinks Abeille worth the trouble, he’d have wanted to hold onto Miel if it had been up to him.
I am still hoping for Mr. Acier to make them another offer, like a new contract with a subsidiary of Eyebright Industries in the second city. I never thought of Acier as a villain. Fingers crossed!
Even if he doesn’t have another offer for him, this isn’t him being a villain. Like Hylian said in another comment, Ms. Frelon is the boss of eyebright industries. He may have pleases to her or defended them, but what she says, goes. Is she won’t change her mind, there’s nothing he can do in his power to keep them there. That implies they had some limit to figure things out, to try to make it work, and whatever efforts were put forth failed. I hope he does know another employer, or another position in the new city, but if not then hopefully he’s done all he can. We can’t see behind the scenes, but he’s always at least liked Miel and would bare minimum fight to keep him, if not Abeille too. I can’t wait to see what happens from here though!

I think only Abeille is being let go because of her reaction in the cafeteria when she poured food on another employee who was being inappropriate. I think the real reason for her termination is the video and rumors, but they used that “assault” as justification, if that makes sense.

Plus, there’s two sheets of paper on the desk. If it was just paperwork for Abeille then it would be a small stack of papers and they would only be getting pushed over to her. There being two sets of paperwork and with one set being pushed toward each of them, it indicates that Miel is being fired as well because he was also involved in the situation that’s led them to this point.
By the way, they don’t look like paper paper, more like virtual paper that exists within the surface of the desk. So I’m thinking if Abeille’s paperwork needed more pages she could just tap the desktop to look through all of them and the item would continue to look like one paper sheet on the table.
Anyway, with how the scene is shot, it seems very obvious that there’s one paper slice per one person.
But then there’s abmiguity with speed. The paper for Abeille is certainly closer and also moving faster based on the movement lines near his sleeves.
The movement lines may simply be an indicator of how far they’ve been moved, not the speed at which they’re moving. It’s hard to move even your own body/arms perfectly in sync sometimes, so it’s entirely possible that Abielle’s paperwork being closer is just because of Acier incidentally giving hers a minuscule head start.

Mm. Not how I hoped this would turn out, but yeah, normally there would be consequences for the festival incident and the assault. I wonder if Aster or one of zir coworkers could work on a rebuttal that Abeille was dealing with (effectively) PTSD being retriggered under stress and the presence of her abuser; due to these issues, she wasn’t able to think clearly and acted impulsively when normally she wouldn’t have gone so far. Regardless, someone needs to get Amaryllis off the planet like yesterday.
If Miel wasn’t fired, Acier might have put in a ‘plea bargain’ that if Miel is sent to Duotropa, he’ll be away from Abeille, since the management might see her as a bad influence. Based on the festival, Miel has impressed Ms. Frelon and the higher-ups before and never really had any disciplinary issues before now.
I’m pretty sure they were both fired. Context clues in this strip aside (giving them each a document, not directing the words at any one person), part of the issue was that Amaryllis had threatened to file a formal complaint against Miel. The ‘ran out of time’ probably means that she went ahead with it.
