Oof, the more I read about Abeille’s past, the more I have a feeling Evette’s death wasn’t only the loss of a beloved sister, she was also one of the few (if not the only) people who stood between Abeille and Amaryllis’s abuse. (Not sure if I should count Mallow, we haven’t seen him in a single flashback, but in the main story he seems pretty passive and unwilling to stand up to his wife on behalf of his daughter – although maybe there’s a whole side to his character that hasn’t been shown yet, we’ll see).

I keep hoping and praying he’ll step up. It happened in Red String when a parent finally stood up to their spouse who was well. . . . abusive to their child, so I am hoping Mallow does that.

Yeah, no wonder Abeille feels so horrible about Evette’s death. It was an accident – a really craptastic accident that Evette’s entry card blew away – but it wasn’t Abeille’s fault. The same incident could’ve happened when Evette was outside for any reason.
As for Mallow, I’ve generally considered him a mealy-mouthed enabler. He hasn’t really tried to push against Amaryllis – although I do think he tried to stall her or kind of gray-rock her at the festival. On the main though, I wouldn’t be surprised if Amaryllis stays with Mallow because he can be controlled easily.

And here’s my cynical awful brain going “Jesus, was Evette’s death even a real accident????” xD

And, Yes. The answer is Yes. I think that poorly of Amaryllis. I have absolutely zero hesitation in thinking her capable of murder, even her of her “good” child. Good child who ceases to be good? Perhaps threaten to call her out in a way that would mean a permanent and dramatic change in Amaryllis’ status quo??? Oh ho…no I do not think Amaryllis is incapable at all….

(Clarification: That poorly of Amaryllis as a person. Not as a character. From a literary standpoint, she’s a pretty bomb character!!)

Ok I don’t know when I missed this but I was just thinking that we haven’t seen her, what happened to her. I either missed or forgot she died!! When was that revealed??

There is story before we learn that she died, on this wiki that readers can edit: https://lovenotfound-fans.fandom.com/wiki/Evette

Abeil was running for sports festival, sometime after Poppy was introduced.

Mallow sounds like he’s been beaten down into submission. Amaryllis most likely wore him down to the point he feels like he has no voice or power. He probably isn’t aware of the domino effect Amaryllis (at this stage of the comic, most likely) caused that resulted in Evette’s death. Not saying she had a hand in it directly of course but if she had simply allowed Abeille to just be herself, Evette would most likely still be alive and Abeille still on Pasque. The butterfly effect is a hell of a thing. Anyways, I’m just speculating that if he put two and two together would he even be with Amaryllis still and if he is, would he do more to protect his remaining daughter … or would he remain a doormat? Some people just don’t have any fight in them even when the ones they cherish the most is being harmed. Some people don’t even know that the option is even there.

This is sad. Child favouritism is a sinister thing and one child having the power to ‘save’ the other from a parent’s criticism and abuse is frightening. It makes me wonder if Amaryllis was somehow, in her mom’s eyes, “a mistake” and that’s why she gets the worst of it.

It’s a small miracle Amaryllis hasn’t turned into an angry, vidictive person who doesn’t trust people. TBH I’d rather enjoy it if she did go scorched earth on her “mother”.

I believe you got the names mixed up. Amaryllis is an angry, vindictive person. She’s the mom here.

It’s interesting that Evette seems confident that she will be able to get their mother to change her mind about Abeille’s schedule. That feels like, while the relationship between Abeille and Amaryllis is toxic, the relationship between Evette and Amaryllis is more balanced. To me that makes it feel less like Amaryllis is purely narcisistic and more like she just doesn’t recognize the worth in who Abeille wants to be.

It’s still sad and frustrating but it doesn’t seem that she is so much malicious for the sake of being malicious as simply being un-understanding of Abeille as her own person.

That seems like a good point to me. How to deal with Amaryllis seems different than how one feels about her personality. Getting to see more story from this period is exciting.
