I love Mallow’s face in the second panel. He loves his daughter so much, and is so glad to see her happy, and… I really really hope he’ll have her back against her mom.

Sadly it’s those who love us the most are in the best position to hurt us. Intentionally or not.

Not with ice skating but this is how I felt moving from Connecticut to north Carolina in the first winter.

Looks like she got her love of ice skating from dad. So. Even moresuper special that mom tried to take it away from her. 😐

I wonder if Amaryllis doesn’t skate. I’ve always thought she is jealous of Abeille. That could be part of why she was so mean to Abeille about Ringette. But, then, that is the sort of unfair speculation and judgement that I see often.

I love her facial expressions. I think I can feel what she’s feeling in each of the frames.

You know. Maybe Abeille can be a skate instructor as her new job. I mean, there’s enough demand for skating that there’s a rink, and it looks like not many people know how to skate.

It’d even help tap into her love of the sport.

    How are they doing that?
They are doing that quite well, thanks for asking!

I think this is the first time we haven’t seen Mallow sweating like crazy. Probably cause he’s not used to the more temperate climate that monotropa has. Hopefully they get to have a good and proper heart to heart.

How can you tell the difference?

The front of hers has an extra bump up that is usually to cover up more of the shin, and can cross over with shin guards. (My cousins played hockey A LOT). His 1. don’t have that extra bump & 2. the lacing is different vs her straps. Figure skates are more common for borrowing at rinks, while hockey skates are usually only worn by people who play the sports and have the money to get the tougher skates. (I used to enjoy skating and owned skates) 🙂

also the strongly curved blade itself is typical for ice-hockey skates, while the flatter blades are the long-distance/racing (only one flat line) or figure skating (with usually slightly curved, especially at the front – like Mallow’s blade at the front).

Over the years I had all of them.

But all skates here are unusual high, like boots, not shoes. Mine were always shorter….

I hope someone influential sees Abeille’s graceful gliding on the ice, and decide to start a ringette team right on Monotropa, with her as the team Captain.

I hope Mallow will support his daughter’s choice to remain on Monotropa. It’s obvious he loves Abeille unconditionally, but he’s stuck between his daughter and his wife, and doesn’t want to rock the boat. But he’s going to have to do or say something very soon.

See this, Mallow? See how happy your daughter is right now? That feeling that parents should be fostering in their children?

Please, PLEASE let that be the driving force in your decisions between her and Amaryllis. Be the parent your wife’s failing to be, I’m begging you.

how do they learn to ice skate without physical touch? I went ice skating just once, and was bumping in to people or falling and needing help up constantly! must be really hard to learn things like that in this universe

Well, I think ‘bumping into’ isn’t treated the same as prolonged or intentional physical contact. I mean, we’ve seen that people walk along the streets and halls without much concern, and living in a city, you’re gonna get bumped into at least every once in a while. That’s just a fact. People probably don’t equate a passing bump to, say, choosing to hold hands.
For example, at the start of the comic, Miel and Abeille do bump into each other, but she doesn’t linger on the moment he shoulder checked her and the two landed on each other, she lingers on the moment he stopped to help her back up, putting his hands on her arms.

probably by holding onto barriers? There’s also this dance bracelet technology that protects against little bump-intos

Neato. I wasn’t sure if I had interpreted that correctly. There’s Evette, maybe talking about dance bracelets https://lovenotfound.com/comic/ch05-p28a/ and Abeille giving the lunch ladies something they need https://lovenotfound.com/comic/ch05-p28a/

        Or, are those unrelated.

When I was a kid we were given things that looked like elderly folks’ walking aids except instead of tennis ball on the bottom there were little ice skating blades. Maybe it’s similar here

That’s how my kids learn to skate, besides me holding onto them. Gives them a little independence.

I remember just hugging the boards.

I would love to see this end up with people at the rink asking Evette and Mallow how to skate, and they stay until closing time teaching and having the time of their lives. After which the Snow Globe offers both of them a job for the season, and Mallow decides to stay on Monotropa without the toxic spouse.

I would love for him to leave her, but it’s really, REALLY hard to pull that plug.

Unless he’s suffered long enough (for him) and is READY to let go, he won’t be able to.

Btdt, but before kids. Facing a SLIGHTLY similar situation now, but I feel my partner WANTS to be a good father and is just struggling. Really hoping he can before this are irreparable between kids and him/us. I don’t envy Mallow’s position in the slightest, except maybe that his daughter is out of the home.

This will be good for her self-esteem… on the ice she is the master.
