I don’t think so, I think he just wanted to be able to say goodbye. He already said he had hoped that distance would help Abeille’s and her mom’s relationship.
Her friend seems upset and worried that he will try to stop his daughter, but I’m pretty sure he just wants to say goodbye and give her his blessings. Ask her to keep in touch.
The level of support here. Flashback or not this shows he wanted to make sure she got away, got to have her own life, and was alright after what happened with her sister. I think that’s why he is alright with her staying now, he sees her happiness and her growth. I hope the same happens for him, and they can be alright together.
Maybe Mallow is why they let Abeille stay on Monotropa with just checkin calls and care packages.
Somehow, Malllow and Evette seem to have negotiated with Amaryllis, in the past. My hunch is she’s jealous of Abeille.
Every time I got manipulated by a past partner it seemed like it was because I played the game that we were playing. I couldn’t disagree without performing in the expected way. It wasn’t because I wouldn’t stand up to her. Saying no and not being upset when saying it, skipped the script and we had communication. Maybe that would work.. Maybe Mallow started breaking out of a similar pattern on pg. 23
She snuck out in the middle of the night. Her mother had no idea she was running away or she would have stopped her. Mallow probably woke up and realized she was gone with her things (maybe discovered a note she left them) and raced to catch her at the station. He may have been trying to convince her not to run away in the first place but ultimately let her go after they talked.
This is particularly sad to me. I mean, do they ever mention how much time passed since Evette died? It shouldn’t really matter, but it must be painful for him to lose one daughter and then realize that in order to keep the other daughter, he has to let her go.
It’s incredibly sad to think about what he’s going through emotionally by himself (I doubt his wife gives him much support).
Flashback: Don’t let her go! She’ll surely regret it!
Present Day: She doesn’t regret it.

This… does not feel good after the previous page, not sure why.

Nice to know *one* of them came by to say goodbye back then.

I’m can’t say I’m surprised, but clearly his daughter isn’t the only person who was carrying around some unexamined trauma with her. Poor guy.

You’re probably right, that sounds right
