I was gushing over the pale haired dude in the first panel, but then I noticed he was looking at our couple here and I am like, “Oh no, I thought we were done with new conflicts and chars.”
But yeah, NOW this will be how Botan and Clove get roped into the party via Poppy lol.
And is that a curtain Dumpling Mother and Daughter pair cameo I see in the 2nd panel hmm?? Lol.
Oh my gosh, I feel embarrassed to have missed that, about the “dumpling pair”! Good spot XD It’s nice to see even a smol reference to them <3

Only once, in a flashback. Botan talks about him at the end of Chapter 16, that’s his ex.
I actually went back to that page to check and…. I dont mean to sound rude or anything. But it looks like a diffetent guy. Also, I remember when that page was first published, the guy had orange curly hair, but now he has long straight hair. I guess Gina changed the design when someone in the comments said he looked like Clove. This person has softer freatures and darker skin tone than the man in Botan’s memories. I guess his design changed again?
I have no problem with changes in characters’ design, artists can change their mind and thats ok. but I’m not a fan of changes with no “hey, this guy looks different now” because it can confuse people…
I looked at the page too, and in the very last circle depicting the memory on the page, it *is* the exact same face as we see on this page. It’s not that the design changed, it’s that the depiction earlier in the memory isn’t as precise as the depiction at the end of the memory, or in this page. It’s definitely the same guy though.
I’m not sure if it is exactly the same face, but I fully support the fan theory. People do get thinner faces sometimes over time. There’s also the “I met my ex and he’s way hot now” phenomenon. And people who’s eyes don’t always point in the same direction can look like they are staring at you, when they are actually looking somewhere else.

I wonder if this is someone Clove had a one and done with, back before he committed to Botan. Cuz Botan looked right at him and didn’t recognize him.
I have actually looked right in the direction of people I knew and not seen/recognized them because something or someone else who was more relevant or immediately familiar to me caught my attention, like Poppy did when she passed by. Botan probably wasn’t really paying attention to his surroundings until Poppy strode past–that red hair and matching dress had to be pretty prominent in the crowd. LOL

If you’re somewhere with tight security, it might be picking up that it’s a potential adult site.
It took me until today to realize that we’re supposed to notice and realize this is Boton’s ex, and when Boton looks up and startles in panel 5 we’re supposed to think he saw his ex, and we’re supposed to be surprised when it’s Poppy he noticed instead.
I don’t think that’s Gina’s fault, either, I’m just kinda thick.
I love Poppy eating while she’s walking. A plus size person who enjoys food – wonderful.
