There we go! There’s the invite! Yeah I can see why Poppy would feel a bit awkward asking ‘her old boss’ lol. This is great though! Also, I want whatever they’re drinking! Lol.
I’ve been wondering for a long time about the term datemate. Is it a gender neutral term for a significant other/boyfriend/girlfriend? Is it something more casual, like anyone you go on a date with is your datemate for the evening? Something in between? Any or all of the above, like a non-specified “I go on dates with this person and we are romantic and/or sexual, but it is undefined”? I guess I’m wondering if being awarded the term datemate is like a relationship milestone, or something anyone can be called?
it could make sense for “girlfriend” and “boyfriend” to be just shelved in a post-binary society.
“datemate” seems to be very much before “significant other”, and more a descriptive term.
I always thought it was very cute. If you refer to someone as someone’s date, it sounds temporary. Friend means something different. “Datemate” makes me think of someone who is a friend and you are on a date.
Clove and Botan we last saw Clove expressing he was uncertain, even though it’s kind of obvious that they are a couple. But, they are dating. Same, I guess, with Poppy and Tulip.
Being sexual (in a non-touch way) seems to be quite casual in this world, or more casual certainly than my experience of this late-post-Victorian-suppressed-oppressed America today. I’ll admit I’m reading this for fun (very fun! Great world! Great art! Sweet characters!) and haven’t been tracking all the nuances of who does what with whom and what it means.
My squees hurt the dogs ears… woop.

Like what Roes says, I think.

It seems like a milestone. Before Abeille x Miel was official, Abeille was referred to as a datemate. https://lovenotfound.com/comic/ch15-p28/

The “datemate” question was added to the “fan theories” section of a fan wiki for the comic: https://lovenotfound-fans.fandom.com/wiki/Fan_theories#%22Datemate%22_means_more_than_a_date_partner
a “date” is someone you’re with at one date
a “datemate” is someone with whom you’re going on dates with some stability
also, a sentence “oh, my spouse is my date on this date” is funny
See Poppy? You have more friends than you realize. <3
