I read something about Monotropism again yesterday. It’s a trait that’s been associated with autism. It caught my eye because of Monotropa and Monotropa Uniflora in the story.
The word Monotropism was invented because the Greek root Monotropis, means one-way, single way, or in one direction. From the perspective that Montropism and Polytropism are different, with neither being a disorder, except that society gives an advantage to one, Abeille is single minded, I think. She listens to everyone, but she generally doesn’t do things without feeling it is what she should do. She endures a lot of difficulty from doing what is right. She did the right thing about Amaryllis, instead of reacting early. She is monotropic.
I think the same can be said about Miel. They are honest and strong and making a bee line for their destination.
Being consistent about a personal project for years is admirable. Every comic artist I have asked about this had a stoic response. As if they are downplaying the emotional impact.
Stories don’t end when the author creates the final page. They exist on their own, outside time and space.
New readers can discover them for the first time. I found new parts of the story when rereading.
Stories can be reincarnated in new stories with new characters. Cameos are an example of characters existing outside of stories.
They are the author’s stories though, in terms of guardianship.
Gina once said she likes the finality of stories ending.
In the distant future, physical contact has become an outdated concept. On one of numerous human colonies out among the stars, one lonely young woman decides a more HANDS ON approach might help her find what she's missing.
