I’ve imagined that Amaryllis is envious of Abeille. Amaryllis has the status that Abeille bad mouths herself for lacking (my parents are so smart…), while Abeille is for real, being true and honest. It might seem like Abeille took that slight, but I hope it is that Abeille shows her emotions without fear. Not hurt. A strong person being honest.

oh no, now she’s trapped… trapped by societal convention!!!
but really though. now she can’t get outwardly upset about whatever’s coming without being told she’s making a scene, and she can’t just storm out without being attack-guilted about her sister’s memorial to happen after the meal. her mother, though, would not be similarly confined, since she’s skilled in the quiet dagger approach in the first place.
to be honest this is a really, really toxic trap of a really disgusting kind, using her own daughter’s death as a weapon to get at her other daughter, not to mention tainting what *should* be a normal dinner with one’s family. I know she makes excuses to herself about all kinds of justifications, but this is just gross and I wish it was possible to make someone like her see that without falling into their victim-card default-defenses.
I just hope abeille makes it out of there okay. *braces for a hard chapter*
