  1. For me this brings up the topic that I bring up repeatedly, how important it was for me to learn to be critical of actions, rather than equating people with their actions, and poisoning myself with that bitterness.

During the work day, Mr. Acier encouraged Miel to be obsessed with work. “Not picking up extra hours?”, he scolds Miel for.

Mr. Acier appears to have a disapproving reaction to Miel’s relationship with Abeille. Elsewhere he describes himself as not having time for relationships, and then has mixed feelings about it when confronted.

It’s nice for me to see that Mr. Acier isn’t the slave driver that his role at work made him be. The opposite is true too. A business leader who contributes to charities, or uses their personal time to help disadvantaged people, isn’t “a good person”, because of those actions, if his business is engaged in destructive actions.

It was important for me to learn not to feel obligated to reward people’s good behavior (family members, for example), when I’m not equipped to do that. I’m referring to how import it was for me to have personal boundaries, though I fail at that a lot. Also, the importance of respecting other people’s personal boundaries, no matter how unfair it might feel to me.

There are hints of Mr. Acier’s sweetness in the story as he interacts with Miel. Within the story arc there are other arcs and seeing Mr. Acier question himself and evolve as a character is part of why I love this story so much
