And for himself too. Mallow gets treated like a doormat by Amaryllis a lot. While he’s trying to mediate for his wife and daughter’s relationship, he’s not going to get thru to Amaryllis unless he starts to affirm to her what her methods are truly doing to all of them. Mallow probably knows better than anyone what may be Amaryllis’ reasons for her behaviour so would probably be the best person who can persuade her to stop this treatment, once he finds his backbone.
Yes! I never figured out how to respond to an ex-girlfriend who was controlling. Standing up to her wasn’t effective. That just inflamed things. I think part was me not meeting her energy level. Not being assertive without arguing. For example, going on a trip she would plan and dictate minute details of what needed to be done. If I was taking the initiative and saying what has to be done to prepare for the trip, she would probably disagree with anything different than her plan, but it wouldn’t be me passively accepting her orders and obviously resenting it.
Of course, if someone has a personality disorder, there’s probably more to it than that.
I’ve said this before, but my mom is nowhere near as bad as Abielle’s mom, but she still is someone I don’t want to be around anymore. I WISH my own dad had tried sticking up for me more, but he always says, to just “live with it”, so as a result, while I still love my dad too, I never count on his support anymore and have stopped talking to him how I really feel because I know it’ll get around to mom. I do have someone in the family I can 100% rely on, my mom’s oldest sister, who makes sure to keep her promises to never tell my mom these things (and she isn’t afraid to gossip, but knows how scared I am of my own mother, so she keeps her silence there).
Maybe because of your manipulative behaviour throughout your whole visit and other past events toward her? Abeille isn’t falling for anymore of her mother’s cheap tricks, theatrics nor excuses to make Abeille do what only she wants without proper explanations for them beyond just her own opinions. If Amaryllis even has any true good intentions behind her actions, she needs to stop being underhanded here and just come out with the full story. Amaryllis needs to start acknowledging Abeille as an adult, regardless if she’s ready to see as one or not.
More likely to keep her from knowingly going on the “warpath” again, but the method is as good as throwing water on a grease fire; he needs to change his tactics as well as Amaryllis’ here, hopefully not for the worse.
Narcissists really hate it when they lose control of their “supply.” As for Mallow, he’s making things worse. She manipulated him to do things she wanted to do, so with his argument, she’s going to project herself onto Miel, thinking he’s manipulating Abeille, taking the “supply” for himself. It will never ever occur to Amaryllis that Abielle is a person choosing this for herself.
ouch, that flashback compared to the present really really emphasizes the draining effect she’s had on him through the years. the man is positively *withered* and it’s *heartbreaking*.
