Glad that he’s finally done with playing the peacekeeper between them. He may hopefully start standing up more against Amaryllis’ toxicity after this; she’ll probably start making him her local punching-bag soon enough.
I don’t think he’s done playing peacekeeper at all just because he calls out egregious one-sided abuse. And if I remember correctly, he did see her off-planet without blowing her cover, so it is not like he is unaware of Amaryllis’ impact on Abeille. He clearly is used to navigating the troubled waters around Amaryllis, so it is not like there is some epiphany in store for him.

So, I can reply to a reader if I’m on my laptop. I can’t or don’t know now to on my android cellphone. Meeting off world, might be here. I love the part of the story where Mallow meets with Abeille without Amaryllis. Chapter 21 page 29. A few pages earlier is when he gives her skates and he avoids Amaryllis’ games.
Whatever makes it easier for you to soothe your self-serving ego, “Mommy-Dearest”. You were long-overdue for this reality-check; and Abeille, YES, DAMN PROUD OF YOU!!!
Sometimes the correct course of action is walking away. Do not engage, you will not win and even if you do it won’t be worth wasting the energy that you could be using on the people you love.
I’m proud of Abeille. Walking away especially when it hurts takes a hell of a lot of courage. Even though she’s fictional, I’m so proud of her.
Whoever predicted rage from Amaryllis when Abeille disengaged was spot on. Also, well done on Abeille! She had the perfect response to her mother’s tantrum.
Oh, so Abeille is ungreateful because she didn’t fall for your manipulation? Interesting… I guess you really can’t see the plank on your own eye.
I know this level of entitlement is real, because my father was like that. If you didn’t blindly follow his every whim, you were the “ungrateful” one. But seriously, she’s been scheeming from the second she decided to go to Montropa, and now she’s blaming her because her plans didn’t work out. That is a special kind of entitlement.
“What’s unfair is that I was left with such an ungrateful child!” is such an endearing rephrase of “if only you had died instead of Evette, I would have been so happy.”

Meant to be a reply to Kendall.
Thanks for the link. Here’s another one from the same chapter, slightly earlier. That whole chapter is good context for this conversation.

Will he please stand up and tell her off and call her out for her blatant manipulation. Even if he only starts now and really gets rolling later.
