Oh, this has been ENTIRELY worth it to see that smug grin get wiped off of her face in panel 4.
Here comes the explosion. I’m glad Abeille has Miel there for support. She sure as hell isn’t getting it from her father. I wish Mallow would stand up for his daughter just ONCE.
Thwarted narcissists turn ugly. Mallow may never have seen her in full flower before, or if he has it was long ago and he’s forgotten why he stopped fighting.
I love that she’s stolen a page from her mother’s book, showing she’s strengthened her resolve, but also strengthened her strategy. She won’t be so easily stampeded when she’s come prepared to fight drama with drama by rewriting the script.
– First, she’s let them think she’s going to be very difficult, but in a predictable way (unanswered doors, hiding),
– Then she let them think she’s going to be unexpectedly cooperative, but in a predictable way (quiet, but seemingly packed & ready to go).
– Then, after the emotional whiplash, she drops the props (bag, plant), drops the bombshell (oh sorry you wildly misread my intent, *twice*), and drops the new script, with three quiet words.
– THEN, she has the emotional high ground (look, we’re the adults in the room, quietly tolerating your histrionics, while you’re loudly making incorrect assumptions and uninformed demands like a spoiled, selfish child, and dad’s cowering silently like a helpless, frightened child).
Confused about one thing. Do those plants grow on both Pasque and Monotropa? Because that’s the plant Miel gave her (isn’t it?) and also the same plant engraved on Evette’s memorial? And was it a similar plant in the snow globe? I know I’m mixing things up and they aren’t all the same, but I am confused and wouldn’t mind some help sorting it out! Thanks!
No problem! Allow me… The Monotropa plant is the one Miel gave her at the beginning of the series. The plant engraved on the memorial is the same plant that mom bought on Monotropa for her scheme for the memorial. The Snow Globe only has snow from her home planet, no plants. ^_^
Of course you would think that you’ve “won” here, Amaryllis. You’re probably about to sooner be through WITH your daughter here unless you have a sudden epiphany about your wrongdoings.
I love how calm Abeille looks, it seems to me that she finally figured out that the best way to deal with her mom is just to make her decisions known without trying to have her on her side. She has made her choice, and nothing Amaryllis can say will change that. If Amaryllis doesn’t want to listen, no point in spending extra words on her/
I’m sorry to hear that! Since last page I had installed a WordPress site caching plugin that I was hoping would eliminate that issue. I used it in combination with my site host’s caching system when I uploaded the new page. I will continue to seek solutions.
Ohhh, Amaryllis’ eyes in the last panel… I suspect we’re heading into “mask off” territory with her very…
Incredible storytelling in these panels. Be strong, Abeille!! 🙂
There is a youtube channel called “the necessary conversation” where it is siblings and their horrible parents discussing topics. It illustrates the complexity of dealing with difficult people, I think.
It is good that Abeille is not going back to Pasque, but she will still be connected; with Mallow of course. I don’t know if mom is ever reachable, but she will still be there in Abeille’s heart. That is the hard part. Leting her go.
Blocking her from you in the obvious ways, doesn’t change her in your heart. Let her go there too. Forgiveness is for you. Let her go. Don’t keep that poison in you.
Is your inspiration for Abeille’s hair and dress from Princess Serenity in Sailor Moon? You did such a great job ❤️ (been reading since the Red String days and for some reason I don’t think I’ve ever commented before)
You know, I really wasn’t thinking Serenity for her look here — though I am sure my brain was subconsciously screaming the idea at me very loudly after I look at the result.
For her hair, I wanted to have a style that harkened back to the beginning on the series where she used to wear her hair in three small buns on each side (to represent flowers), but I tried to make the buns here look more like bumblebee wings.
And for the dress, I was inspired by a lovely couture from the Paolo Sebastian Fall/Winter 2016 Collection. [ ref: https://senatus.net/album/image/137067/ ] I shorteded it and changed up the colors/design on the bodice to be more like flowers.

This might be very… instructional.

Given that Amaryllis’ eyes are RED in the last panel instead of her usual PINK, she’s subtly showing repressed anger here.

Pretty cute that the plant still looks it is suffering (I suck at caring for plants).
Hurray that she is not going. Yeah step it up Mallow. You love your absolutely adorable daughter.
Jenny
It was naturally drooping to begin with, the flower. A Monotropa looks like an overall white snowdrop.

Step 5:
“I will move in with Miel. That is why I packed.
And the plant is a gift for you, to remember me by when you return home.”
Jenny
Oh, please don’t suggest making the flower become a scapegoat in her place… 😭

I’m terrified Ammy is about to do something awful to the poor ghost flower. Hopefully I’m wrong!

I have a feeling Mallow will step it up. The same thing happened in Red String, and it’ll happen here too.
I bet she’s moving in with Miel’s family. Then she can get a couple of REAL moms hehe.

The plant will get hurt 🙁

FYI, I only just found the new page after playing with the back and end buttons and refresh repeatedly.

I’m not sure if this was intentional, so I wanted to ask, were Abeille and Amaryllis eyes supposed to be red here instead of their usual pink?

Moving in with Miel? 👀
