  9. Leaving this comment on page 9 here as I can’t seem to bring up a comment page there. Gina- I’m a little disappointed in you. I suppose you’re not a gardener so you maybe didn’t know that a strawberry is a plant, not a tree. True there are various trees labelled as “strawberry” trees, but they’re not really strawberries. EG a muntingia which is native to India and only vaguely tastes like strawberries. We used to have one. There’s a different one, called the arbutus, which doesn’t even look like strawberries. I’m sure you’re close to a U pick of some kind, where it might be a good idea to try to schedule a trip this coming December when the strawberries ripen (here in Lake Placid. In Plant City, nortwest of us the Strawberry Festival is held in early February) Of course, with the advances in science implied in your books I suppose it’s possible that trees have been developed to bear many types of fruit that aren’t currently tree crops.

    1. Oh yes, I am quite aware that the Strawberry is a plant and not a tree (I have several of them as companion plants to my Peach Trees along with Oregano, Dill, and Chives). In this Sci-fi world, Miel’s company was creating all sorts of hybrid plants that could sustain the Monotropan environment. Throughout the series, they’ve made appearances; The Peapricot (pear-apricot hybrid) that Ivy and Holly had been growing at Eyebright, somewhere else I drew in a Sunflower “tree” and other things that were reminiscent of their Earth origins. I envisioned Miel attempting to create this special plant over the course of several years to give as a gift to Abeille. Since the epilogue was presented wordless, I had hoped it would be obvious that it was a fictional plant. Maybe I’ll make an author’s note about it in the print edition. ^_^
